The maintenance of a Sealed 12v Battery is very important. The silt on the top of the battery provides a path between the two poles. This is a "short circuit". Most people never notice this, but it constantly consumes energy. Usually, only a spray with a household cleaner and a wipe is enough.
Corrosion will accumulate. Sometimes, you can't even see it. Disassemble the contacts and clean them. (Now you can use baking soda, but don't let it get into the battery.) Do it once or twice a year, it's quick and easy.
Before putting things back in place, coat all surfaces (thin ones) with silicone dielectric grease. This is before, not after. Applying grease to corrosive substances will not have any effect.
Never use the red battery spray. It will only make things worse. Red/green felt non-corrosive gaskets are acceptable.
Label or color-code the ends of cables and wires. Make a chart. If you don't do this, you will connect things wrong.
