There are three methods of making molds using injection plastic molds: standard machining, computer numerical control machining, and electrical discharge machining.

Standard machining involves manually using a machine tool to cut and form raw material (metal) into the desired mold shape and size. This type of machining requires annealing to soften the mold, followed by heat treatment to harden it again. Annealing is the slow heating and cooling of plastic products to relieve internal stress. Historically, standard machining was the most common method for making injection molds.

Computer numerical control machining involves programming a computer to cut and shape raw material (metal) into the desired mold shape and size. As technology has advanced, computer numerical control machining has become the dominant method of making molds, as it can create complex plastic molds with more precise details in less time than standard machining.

Electrical discharge machining involves the use of electrodes to corrode and shape the raw material (metal) into the desired mold shape and size. At first, the metal surface is covered with oil. Then, electrodes made of copper or graphite are placed on the metal surface for several hours. Finally, a voltage is applied, which causes spark corrosion and produces the reverse shape of the electrode. This type of machining has become very popular because it can form more difficult shapes without any heat treatment.

Taizhou Huangyan Jinhong Plastic Mould Parts Co., Ltd. is an injection mold maker from China, The company sells ejector sleeves and other related products.
