There are many types of air conditioners, and there are roughly three categories on the market today, precision regulators, filter regulators, and general-purpose regulators.
The purpose of the air filter regulator is to clean the airlines of moisture and particles while reducing the air pressure to the set point. This is critical for protecting expensive lab equipment, valve positioners, or I/P sensors. The adjustment principle here is the same as for all air pressure regulators. Modern industrial technology can force supply air through sintered polyethylene filters of size 40 or 5 microns to filter out moisture and very small particles from the supply air. Everything filtered from the air is collected in a drip well and can be drained manually or automatically when the liquid reaches a certain point.
(2) Universal voltage regulator:
General-purpose voltage regulators are a more appropriate choice when cost takes precedence over accuracy. Most precision regulators are sensitive to a 1/8" water column, and since these units are not designed to expel a small amount of air, you will generally see less air consumption when using general-purpose regulators. These types of air pressure regulators are used in the fluid power industry and process control instruments and panels have been widely used.
(3) Precision regulator
It differs from general-purpose regulators mainly in their accuracy and sensitivity. You can think of sensitivity as the ability of the regulator to respond to changes in air pressure relative to the unit's set point. For example, Type 100 has a sensitivity of 1/8” water column. This means that if the output pressure differs from the set pressure by about 0.0045 PSI, the unit will correct to bring the output pressure back to the set value. This high level of sensitivity is achieved by keeping the diaphragm in a reactive state. We do this by constantly expelling a small amount of air, which does not allow the diaphragm to settle.
