copper magnet wire is applied to copper and aluminum round and flat wires used in motors, transformers, generators, and electrical measuring instruments. They are cured onto the wires by heating. The main function of the resulting coating is electrical insulation. Enameled wire paint is also described as primary insulation. Coated wires are sometimes referred to as "magnet wires."

Enameled wire insulated wire
Enameled wire paint can be applied to up to 30 layers of copper and aluminum wires. This provides electrical insulation and helps the winding avoid short circuits. These wire enamels must also have very good chemical resistance and heat resistance, must adhere very well to copper or aluminum wires, and have excellent mechanical stability.

In some cases, such as when used in an inverter-driven motor, an appropriate insulation layer should be able to resist partial discharges that may cause short circuits and malfunctions in the motor.

The covered wires vary depending on the application. Some may be smaller than the diameter of a strand of hair-for example in the electronic components of a watch. But in heavy motors in wind turbines, the diameter of a round or flat wire can reach several millimeters.

The application of enameled wire paint depends on the shape and diameter of the wire to be coated. Horizontal or vertical applications, or using molds or felt applications, are typical wire coating methods.

Thanks to Axalta's close relationship with the international enameled wire industry, the company is able to continuously develop new technologies and manufacturing processes, and adjust its product portfolio to meet changing market needs. This also means that customized enameled wire solutions have been developed specifically for motor applications, helping to improve and optimize the operating performance of specific customers.

Chemically speaking, the enameled wire paint series include polyurethane, polyester, polyester imide, and polyamide-imide. The solid content ranges from approximately 8% to 60% (1g/1h/180°C) and the viscosity ranges from 30 to 60000 mPas (23°C).

Mold application

Polyurethane wire enamel (PUR)
Wires insulated with polyurethane enameled wires have good solderability at 375°C, and have a special formula to provide excellent crack resistance and pinhole resistance. These enameled wire paints are mainly used for small transformers, timers, relays, small motors, solenoids, clock coils, watch coils, flyback transformers and magnetic heads.

Solderable polyester imide wire enamel (PEI)
Solderable polyester imide wire enamel is widely used in the electromagnetic wire of relays, small transformers, small motors, contactors, ignition coils, electromagnetic coils and automobile coils.

Polyester-imide wire enamel can be welded at a temperature above 450°C. These coatings are particularly suitable for connecting windings to current collectors in small motors. Coated enameled wire has good elasticity and good dielectric and mechanical properties.

THEIC Modified Polyester Enameled Wire Paint (TPE)
THEIC modified polyester enameled wire paint is used as a primer for aluminum and copper wires and has very good mechanical, electrical, chemical and heat resistance.

THEIC-Polyester-imide wire enamel (TPEI)
THEIC-Polyester-imide wire enamel has high heat resistance and very good mechanical, electrical and chemical resistance. These enameled wire lacquers are widely used in electrical wires, refrigeration equipment, transformer windings and fluorescent lamp ballasts.

Due to its very good mechanical properties, high heat resistance grade and good chemical resistance, Voltatex 7300 AX is used to coat wires that are widely used in small transformers, cooling devices and electronic ballasts.

How to prevent corona discharge?
Corona discharge may occur in high-voltage applications in electrical equipment, such as inverter-powered motors, transformers, high-voltage rectifiers, generators, ignition coils, wind generators, hybrid motors, elevators, or pump motors.

Polyamideimide wire enamel (PAI)
Polyamide-imide wire enamel can be used as a double-coat or single-coat, but both options have excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance. In addition to the classic polyamide-imide coating, Axalta also offers an enameled wire paint with integrated lubricant to increase the winding speed. These products are specifically used to coat wires in motors, refrigeration equipment, transformer windings and fluorescent lamp ballasts. It can be used as a flexible top coat in combination with polyester or polyester imide primer to improve the mechanical, chemical and thermal properties of the coating. In some cases, the Voltatex 8300 series can also be used as a single-layer coating for flat wire applications.

Polyvinyl formal enameled wire paint (PVF)
Polyvinyl formal enameled wire paint is suitable for heavy-duty round and rectangular conductors. They have excellent mechanical stability, excellent copper adhesion and resistance to transformer oil. These highly precise enamels are mainly used in large generators and transformers due to their excellent mechanical properties. In addition to good dielectric properties, these enamels also show excellent chemical resistance, which makes coated wires suitable for sealing applications and oil-filled transformers that comply with IEC60 851-4. They are also very suitable for the production of flat wires for transposition cables (CTC).

Self-adhesive enameled wire paint (SB)
Self-adhesive wire enamels based on epoxy resin, polyvinyl butyral and polyamide are used to stabilize windings. They are mainly used to coat instrument coils, voice coils, speakers, small motors and sensors.
In addition, our company also has round enameled wire and other different magnet wires for you to choose.
