We all know what ultra fine mist sprayer do; they deliver a fine spray of mist to dispense a product. But have you ever wondered how it worked?

First, how fine do you want your mist?

Depending on your product, you can select a type of misting that works best for you. A fine mist sprayer dispenses a shorter, smoother, and softer mist which is quite popular for personal care and cosmetics products. A regular mist sprayer will dispense a longer, more compact, and more dense spray pattern.

In this video, you can see the difference between three types of sprayers. The LG12 cloud mist sprayer on top, the DP612 fine mist sprayer in the center and the ZHBR mist sprayer on the bottom.

  COMPONENTS OF A MIST SPRAYER

These are the components that allow a fine mist sprayer to turn a stream of liquid into a mist:

  Dust Cap

Often made of clear PP plastic, this cap acts as a dust cover and safety cap that protects the actuator from accidentally dispensing the product.

  Actuator

This is the what you push down to dispense the product that, unlike a lotion pump actuator, has internal components to create the product’s specific misting pattern. that consumer pushes down to spray the product out of the bottle. Some actuators also have locking features that prevent accidental dispensing.

  Insert

This tiny component is where liquid flows to create the mist pattern, and fits on the exterior of the actuator. This is where the product exits the sprayer.

  Closure

The closure is what keeps the entire assembly together and holds it onto the bottle. It’s usually made of PP plastic and comes with many different finish and design options, including, but not limited to, metal over shells.

  Gasket

This is the what seals the closure onto the bottle to prevent leakage. Different products and chemical compositions require different material selection, so this is the most important part to test to ensure compatibility.

  The Mechanism

The mechanism is really many different components rolled into one, including the piston, stem, seal, spring, and housing cap. This is what transfers the product from the bottle to the actuator. Pressing the actuator draws the product up the dip tube, through the piston towards the actuator where it exits through the insert.

  Dip Tube

This is the long plastic tube that goes from the bottom of the bottle into the sprayer. Unlike the thicker lotion pump dip tube, the mist sprayer dip tube is thinner and often slightly bent to allow it to reach the bottom to be able to dispense all the contents of the product.
