What is a pavilion?
Historically, the gazebo has existed for a longer time than the aluminum pergola. Found in the Egyptian garden plan dating back to 1400 BC, the pavilion has long been a luxurious place for relaxation while enjoying incredible views.
The difference between a pergola and a Outdoor Folding Gazebo
Structurally, the pavilion is usually a six-sided or eight-sided polygonal shape. These sides may be completely open to the air, including half walls or railings, or full walls all around, with large windows, allowing you to enjoy the scenery. The roofs of these structures are similar to the roofs of houses (only a small scale), and are usually built in a style that mimics or complements the houses that accompany them. Depending on the foundation, they usually have a floor above the ground to provide a better vantage point and to ensure that the surface remains dry even in the event of heavy or prolonged rainfall.
The overall feel of the pavilion complements the layout of the Victorian garden, which is gorgeous and layered, similar to the costumes of the time.
What is a pergola?
As mentioned earlier, pavilion is a more modern term than pavilion. First used in the late Middle Ages in the 1640s, the Latin root of the word is "pergula", which means "projection eaves".
