Determine the type of pump and drive options for Electric Plunger Pump
For piston and plunger pumps, the constant factor is 1460. Use 1030 for roller pumps. Finally, diaphragm pumps use a factor of 1370. These constant coefficients are used to pump aqueous solutions - if we get a heavier or more viscous solution than water - our factors need to be changed.

Centrifugal and gear pumps are very different and must be designed for specific applications. Having said that, we can look further at some examples in this post.

We also need to consider the type of drive option that will be used. For example, the drive constant factor is also different when using an electric motor versus a gas or diesel engine. More about this in the post below.

Centrifugal pump horsepower selection
The main difference in centrifugal pump sizing is the size or trim of the impeller. Depending on the solution, the flow required and the TDH in the piping system - we will size the pump to have some impeller trim which is directly related to the required horsepower.

In general, we use pump curves to help size centrifugal pumps for specific applications. The pump will always run on its curve. That's why it's critical to determine exactly what we need out the output flow, TDH, and solution being delivered. All of these factors, and really more temperature and viscosity, can affect the horsepower and impeller size required for a centrifugal pump.
